In line with our commitment to propagate intellectual property awareness in Africa, the topic for the first stage of the MIPLG Virtual Debate Competition is:
“Recognition of Intellectual Property Rights as a Fragment of the Right to Property in 21st Century Africa: A necessity or luxury?”.
Students are expected to adopt a reflective approach in consideration of the topic and in their presentations. The aim is to encourage basic understanding of intellectual property rights and their recognition as property rights or otherwise in 21st Century Africa.
Registration on the IP community for participants spans from the 6th- 10th of August on https://myiplawguide.com/register/
Arguments are to be submitted from the 10th- 16th of August (6PM GMT+1) on http://www.myiplawguide.com/debate
Judges will be looking out for the following:
- Structure;
- Quality and relevance of Argument;
- Coherence and flow of Argument;
- Clarity of Expression;
- Practicality and contribution to subject- matter.
Submissions must be:
- PDF or Word documents only
- Font- Tahoma (12)
- Line Spacing- 1.5
- Word Count- 1, 500 words max (references excluded).
Students must be sure to stick to the rules of the competition as circulated. Documents must not bear an indication of student or institution. Necessary information will be filled into the submission form upon submission.
