Debate topics will stir- up discussions on the roles of creativity and innovation, education, recognition and enforcement of intellectual property rights in developing countries. Emphasis will be laid on the role(s) students&nbsp;play in the promotion&nbsp;of&nbsp;intellectual Property for development in Africa.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participation will provide students with an international platform for healthy competition, research and learning opportunities, networking and contribution to the development of IP protection in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Countries<\/strong>&#8211; Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who can participate?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This competition is&nbsp;open&nbsp;all&nbsp;tertiary institutions&nbsp;in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya, to be represented by two registered students of these institutions. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Structure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(6<sup>th<\/sup>&#8211; 10<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;August 2020)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage 1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>National Qualifying Stages<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(10<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2013 16<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;August&nbsp;2020)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage 2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>International Groupings and Knock- out Stages<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(24<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;\u2013 29<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;August&nbsp;2020)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage 3<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Semi- Finals&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(3<sup>rd<\/sup>&#8211; 5<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;September 2020)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stage 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finals&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(5<sup>th<\/sup>&#8211; 12<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;September 2020)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The debate competition will be conducted on audio- visual platforms;&nbsp;Zoom, GoToWebinar or Microsoft Teams. However, national qualifying stages will be conducted through submission of debate arguments&nbsp;on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/myiplawguide.com\/test\/debate\">https:\/\/myiplawguide.com\/test\/debate<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Submission form is visible only to registered and logged in members on the MIPLG IP Community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Results will be collated by our judges at the end of every debate session&nbsp;(stage 2- 4)&nbsp;and results published on the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The submission format<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Word and PDF documents only<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Font- Tahoma&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Size- 12<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Line Spacing-&nbsp;1.5<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Word Count- 1500 Maximum (footnotes excluded)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NB:<\/strong>&nbsp;Every&nbsp;submission is an indication of interest to represent your tertiary institution&nbsp;which&nbsp;must be&nbsp;represented by two registered students at&nbsp;every&nbsp;stage of the competition.&nbsp;Therefore, students are&nbsp;encouraged to pair up, research and submit a single debate argument&nbsp;at&nbsp;stage 1. Submissions by an individual and\/ or documents containing any means of identification (individual or institution) will result in disqualification.
